Dr. Eva Gentile reached the settlement with the board, which includes the requirement that she hire a monitor to oversee her billing and ensure that she practices medicine safely, the documents say.
In 2013, Gentile was charged by the Orange County District Attorney’s office with seven felony counts of insurance fraud and aiding the practice of unlicensed medicine. The board documents do not provide specific details on the circumstances leading to the charges.
In 2015, she pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of aiding the practice of unlicensed medicine. The other felony counts were dropped and she was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay restitution of $166,000.
Her attorney, Kevin Gallagher, said Monday, July 17, that Gentile’s conviction was “very minor.”
“She’s an excellent physician,” Gallagher said. “The fact that the Medical Board allows her to keep practicing is a wise decision on the Medical Board’s part.”
